The future of education is Emotional Intelligence

We give you evidence-based practices for your school's success

Dear Educator,
We see you.

We share a vision.

We know that schools are a place of life. We’ve each experienced first-hand the joy and happiness that comes from the connection and growth we achieve in relationship with one another. We know the power of the bond: educators with students, educators with each other, and educators with parents.

The struggles have been real, but we’re holding onto hope that things will be good again. You're here now to steer your team out of Covid-19's shifting sands onto the firm foundation of love and learning we know schools to be.

The Applied EQ Group understands your struggles intimately--because we've been in your shoes.

Hello, we're Dr. Adam Saenz and Dr. Jenny Severson

When we met in 2021, we had already had several decades working in the field with you.

Having been exactly in your shoes, we know your current situation is incredibly difficult.

But we also want you to know that the unique challenges that you face today position you to become better than you have ever been in your role.

That's what we're here to help you do at Applied EQ.

Our aims are twofold:

Practically, we're here to support you and your school through our world-class personal development offerings that are not "one-and-done." Because we know inspiration only goes so far, we're here to help you implement our resources so that your school achieves tangible results (think: higher test pass rates, higher graduation rates, etc.).

The proprietary resources we've created include:
✔ Onsite training
✔ Virtual training
✔ Coaching
✔ Asynchronous training
✔ Books & book studies
✔ Curricula

On a whole other level, however, we're here to give you a fresh perspective on how to relate to each other and to your students so that school becomes more fun. We know that you don't have hours to spend in the therapist's chair and make no mistake, this isn't therapy.

But it is research-backed, evidence-based techniques that help you play to your leadership team's strengths so that you can achieve your school's goals faster. We're here to help leaders relate to themselves and each other better-- because we know it takes a whole leader to develop a whole team.

We're here for you,

Dr. Adam Saenz
Dr. Jenny Severson

Dr. Adam Saenz

Adam beat the odds of being a Hispanic male from a single-parent home in one of the country’s poorest counties to study at Harvard, Brown, and Oxford--all thanks to support from his teachers. He later returned to education as a psychologist, offering both students and educators a roadmap to be human, to express and navigate their emotions.

Dr. Jenny Severson

Jenny's time as a school principal started when she was 26--her experience allows her to understand the unique challenges educators face. (She gets it.) Over the decades since, she's been a sought-after consultant in helping schools implement EQ to achieve dramatic results (improved attendance, high achievement) like making three years of progress in as little as one. Her niche is working with women leaders, principals, and superintendents.

In addition to diving deep into partnership with you and giving you personalized strategies for your school to work better together, the Applied EQ Group can help you...

Deliver inspiration as well as world-class implementation. We are not a one-and-done personal development workshop--we are comprehensive and we give you techniques to implement long-term so that you can consistently observe progress.

Help your leaders and teacher connect better to each other so that you're playing to each other's strengths as a team--rather than getting bogged down by the inevitable challenges that arise. Bonus: This is what makes work less of a struggle and more enjoyable so that folks want to come to work.

Support your school members in becoming better people overall-- better husbands and wives, better mothers and fathers, better community members. The power of EQ is that it's applicable beyond the classroom.

Lead your school towards better attendance rates, lower discipline rates, and better graduation rates. This starts with implementing tools from our toolkit for navigating the inevitable chaos in the classroom so that students are able to work through situations together.

Help your students become prosocial--so that they're relating to each other (in a world that has become extremely polarizing), so that they learn, practice, and develop positive behaviors they'll take with them for the rest of their life, creating a ripple effect in the world.

Support your students in becoming tended to as a whole--this is a huge part of becoming EQ-uiped!

Meet Dr. Adam Saenz

Dr. Adam Saenz has literally gone from handcuffs to Harvard. Because of a few key teachers, he beat the odds placed upon him by his socio-economic background. He's experienced firsthand how educators shape the future through life-changing relationships with their students, and founded the

Applied EQ Group to support educational leaders in doing more of exactly the same.

Adam shares more about the incredible influence of his teachers in his TedxYale talk, "The Power of a Teacher."

Meet Dr. Jenny Severson

On multiple occasions, Dr. Jenny Severson has been described as "a breath of fresh air"--a compliment she doesn't take lightly. Having been a young principal, she understands the challenges educators are facing and meets them where they are without judgment. She uses her extensive expertise in neuroscience to give evidence-based tools to support their well-being and academic success--because she knows it takes a whole teacher to develop a whole student. Jenny is excited to bring her EQ and neuroscience expertise to the Applied EQ Group.
